Spontaneously, while talking with Yana over a video call, we decided to visit Vigan City after our Baguio trip.
We booked our ticket to Baguio last April, and the flight was in June. Originally, it should have been 4 nights in Baguio, but I suddenly mentioned to her that I wanted to see Vigan City and the famous Calle Crisologo, and of course, she wanted to visit the place as well.
Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, is one of the most beautiful streets in the Philippines. It boasts centuries-old stone houses, lovely tungsten lamps, and antique cobblestone, where horse-drawn carriages or kalesas are still used for transport. https://guidetothephilippines.ph/destinations-and-attractions/calle-crisologo
Right after our trip to Baguio City, we decided to visit Vigan City in Ilocos Sur. We took the first bus at 4 a.m. After I finished work at 2 a.m., we gathered our things and headed to the bus terminal. The travel time is approximately 6 to 7 hours. The fare for students is a little over 300.00, while the regular fare is a little over 400.00.
When we arrived in Vigan City, we settled into our hotel and then enjoyed a relaxing massage at "Nuat Thai Bantay."(H9HR+MG8, Quirino Boulevard, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur). Yana opted for the oil Thai massage, while I chose the dry Thai massage. For lunch, we dined at "Panganan Ken Ihawan Toy Ciudad Ti Vigan."(H9FM+PXP, Bonifacio, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur)
After returning to the hotel for a nap and a shower, we headed out in the afternoon to explore the city center. We took a kalesa ride for 200.00 PHP,
explored the famous streets, and took plenty of photos. A local kindly offered to take a picture of us, and it turned out beautifully.
We sampled the delicious local ice cream, choosing the avocado and cheese flavors, which were both delightful, including the cone.
By 6 p.m., we were feeling hungry but decided to have a light meal at Cafe Leona. We ordered a salad, a tuna sandwich, and mango shakes.
We wandered around some more and came across "Old Soul Bar and Beans." I ordered my all-time favorite cocktail, a margarita, while Yana enjoyed a mojito.
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. We needed to travel back to Clark to catch our flight at 11 a.m. We took the 10 p.m. bus to Dau and then booked a Grab to Clark International Airport. We arrived at the airport around 7 a.m.
It was a short trip to Vigan with a long bus journey, but it was entirely worth it._kenny🖤
The PALAHUBOG crew went to Camiguin for 2 nights and 3 days, and it was a fun and very budget-friendly trip. (Old Church Ruins) I booked Marianita's Cottage for our accommodation. Based on our activities, this place was a good choice. One room had a sea view, and the other had a garden view and was slightly bigger. Best part? We could cook inside, which helped us save a lot on food. And of course, Teddy got to show off his chef skills, which made it even better. 😄 ( https://www.marianitas-cottages.com/) (the chef 👨🍳) We visited some of the island's well-known spots on our first day, like the Old Church Ruins (50.00 PHP entrance fee) and the Sunken Cemetery (no entrance fee). Our dinner that night, plus breakfast the next morning, only cost us 172.00 PHP each. Super affordable and shared with laughter and good vibes. (twinning) The next day, we went on an island tour to Mantigue Island . The boat fee was just 750.00 PHP for all six of us, including the kids, Yana...
For Dayana, with love. My dearest Dayana, Meeting you in 2019 feels just like yesterday. I still remember the first time I saw you— in our dressmaking class, wearing that light blue striped polo dress, your short hair, your quiet, shy presence. Something in me said, “I want her to be my friend.” I befriended your friends (our classmates) first to get closer to you. And when we finally clicked, it felt so easy. Milk tea dates after class—though I didn’t even like milk tea at first. (It hurt my tummy, remember?) It was you who introduced it to me. We were in sync, sometimes even unknowingly twinning our outfits— like some kind of telepathy in styles. Then the pandemic hit, and life stretched the distance. Four years apart. But when we finally saw each other again, nothing had changed. We travelled, and besides Hermann, you are my best travel buddy. Sometimes we had weird trips that fit each other's souls. swam in the shallow waters of Lapu-Lapu, partied in Cebu City, ...
There's quiet courage in going through something even when it doesn't happen as you imagined. The original plan was shared. A trip with a friend, a familiar face beside you in unfamiliar streets. But life shifts. People need to be elsewhere. And suddenly, you're faced with a choice: wait for the perfect timing... or go anyway. Going alone doesn't always mean loneliness. Sometimes, it means finally listening to your own pace. Taking up space without explaining why. Being still in a new place, with no one to ask "what's next?" There's a strange beauty in that. It's in the moment you arrive and realize no one's waiting for you. In the way you set up your tripod like an old friend. In the quiet confidence of asking directions in a language that isn't yours, but trying anyway. In the way strangers smile when you say good morning, and for once, you really feel it. (The tour guide from a different group took this photo because he saw that I wa...
